But the usual red x is when the laptop's wifi is turned off.
I can only guess why the machine's details are eluding me. But about the bridge, I'll share I used ICS since the bridge is not very useful for connecting to say some xbox. But be warned I never offer support for bridging or ICS. Why? Way too many discussions about this already. No need to start another.

Reply 2 : Wireless Network Connection
My laptops wifi is turned on. I had the connection bridged and working for two days and then for no apparent reason the wireless network connection icon was showing no connnection but I still have internet access! The wireless network connection is a Broadcom 802.11n network adapter. It shows that I have the updated driver!
