Dell WLAN card controller stopped

I have a Dell Inspiron 1420 and kept getting the 'Dell WLAN card controller has stopped working' message. A friend of mine also had the same issue, but everything we heard to do was not working. Finally I decided to purchase a USB wireless adapter. I uninstalled the Dell WLAN and installed the USB wireless - but keep getting the message that there is another service that manages the wireless connection. I'm not sure what to do. Any suggestions?
