Been trying to update this Win7 Pro box for some time now, with no success. Java 6 update 22 is currently on the machine.
Through automatic updates and manually using Java Control Panel/Update, the update procedure stops almost as soon as it starts; I get a popup dialog box that says 'failed to download required installation files'.
Through java.com, I downloaded the jxpiinstall.exe app to do the online install that way, and for my effort it just immediately reports to the screen that 'Java(TM) Platform SE binary has stopped working'. I then download and attempted to run the offline jre-6u23 package, only to get the same 'has stopped working' message. The only difference is that the two apps have different StackHash module failure numbers.
As it turns out, I still have a copy of the offline Java 6 update 22 package...I reran that and it reinstalled itself perfectly.
Any advice as to what to do next?
